Research interests:
Peter Howarth's research interests are in modern poetry, particularly the intersection of aesthetic form with social context. He is the author of the Cambridge Introduction to Modernist Poetry (2011), British Poetry in the Age of Modernism (CUP, 2006), and co-editor of the Cambridge Companion to the Sonnet (2011). Recent articles have discussed the psychology of modernism and anti-modernism in A. E. Housman, the fragment in T S Eliot, and the problem of historicising Creative Writing. His reviews have appeared in the London Review of Books. He teaches teachers for Queen Mary, the English Subject Centre / CCUE, among others, and he is currently principal supervisor for two Ph.D students.
